RESUME
Basically, I take geography and environment classes in my school. In addition to this, I have been writing science for last 16 years in my mother tongue Oriya, a language spoken by about 40 million people in my country. I usually write articles on environment, health, ocean, general science etc. for leading dailies and monthlies of my state and country. Being post graduate in Environmental science, I naturally prefer writing environmental topics. I write science starting from children of age 8 years to general public of any age group. I have written 5 popular science books and more than 400 articles, stories, reports and interviews on environment, health and general science. 12 popular science articles in English find place in leading science monthlies of my country.10 research papers on science communication were placed in different journals. More than 30 talks on science and environment have been broadcasted from different Radio stations of my country. Six more books on popular science are going to be released soon.
Indian Science Writers’ Association (ISWA), New Delhi conferred me upon ISWA national award in 2006 for my outstanding efforts towards science popularization and Communication. Also I have received three more awards from prestigious organizations of my state for writing science in mass media. The American Biographical Institute (ABI) has conferred me an honorary appointment to the Research Board of Advisors as member since 2001.
As a researcher, I have presented ten research papers on science, environment, and communication in different national conferences and actively participated more than 20 such conferences on science communication. Recently I presented a research papers“ Role of Science Writers in Converged Media” in 8th Indian science communication Congress(ISCC) held in Chennai in december,10-14, 2008. I have had the privilege of participating International Media Workshop on climate Change, organized in Geneva, Switzerland and followed by a field trip to Cotnou, Benin during June22-July-05, 2008. Also my research paper entitled “People’s perception on climate change and Role of mass media in India” was selected for presentation and awarded with travel grant of 1800 Euros ( Kavli Prize) in the 10th Public Communication of Science and Communication (PCST) conference held in Sweden and Denmark, in June 23-27, 2008.
As a science writer, I been included in National Directory Science Communicators, published by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and in International Directory of Children’s Book Translators, by UNESCO as a children’s book translator. I represent my country as a member Saturn Observation Campaign, organized by JPL, NASA, USA. I am associated with about 20 reputed organizations on science, environment and science communication, which include press affiliation of Indian Science Writers’ Association, New Delhi, life member of National Center of Science Communicators (NCSC) Mumbai and a dozen of regional organizations. As an active member I am associated with Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Kolkata, Indian Science News Association (ISNA), Kolkata and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), New Delhi and People for Animals, New Delhi.
