I'm Director of a small London-based charity working to develop ideas and innovative practices so that democratic decision-making can work better for sustainable development. The starting point for the work lies with the insight that democracy will need to adapt and evolve to meet twenty-first century sustainable development challenges, and that it will need to do so fast. Issues like climate change, resource scarcity and population growth will create huge pressures for democratic decision-making. The risk is that badly prepared democracies may become less democratic as a result of these pressures
Before this job, I worked with IIED (heading the Business and Sustainable Development Programme), and before that with Chatham House and as a solicitor practising commercial environment law. In this space, I'm interested in getting ideas and inspiration - and also disseminating information about our work. And perhaps persuading other members to contribute to, or comment on, the blog on our website! (www.fdsd.org)
