Bringing people together to improve communication of research findings

I was inspired by the impressive people and expertise I saw at the Science Journalists conference in Melbourne and wonder if I could get some feedback from those who attended.

I am writing a report on using voluntary carbon offsets as a mechanism to encourage investment in low carbon technologies and infrastructure. I used the 'Climate Friendly' website to offset the 938km return flight from Canberra for $6.69 allowing for .3 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). They invest this in a new wind farm in New Zealand which would not have been developed without this kind of funding.

While I see this as a drop in the bucket in terms of atmospheric CO2 I have seen a bucket overflow from a dripping leak. I wonder who else offset their travel and if your flight was paid by someone else did you have trouble getting the offset funded too.
