China launches its first national climate change program

Maybe many of you have known about this news, which came through yesterday at a press briefing. I was there and have produced several stories about it. You can find them at www.chinadaily.com.cn or www.scidev.net.

I would like to say here that I do feel an urge for China to do more about mitigating climate change, especially in the implementation of this all-around program. Share with you an anecdote: After…

Thank you for responding so quickly! The documents I have read are available on these sites:

http://en.ndrc.gov.cn and http://www.acca21.org.cn/indexe1.html

They may be shorter than original Chinsese versions. I put the references here incase someone else finds interest in reading it. I will send you an email soon!

Ni hao!
Unfortunately I didn't find the new China's new Climate change program (June 4) very different from the earlier Action plan for sustainable development and White paper.

It would be great to discuss these documents with you. You must talk to many different people in many places, what are the ranges of environmental awareness and what are their possibilities to do something environmental friendly?

Hi- Are you the same Wu Chong who won one of the 2007 AAAS Fellowships for Science Reporters in Developing Regions? My organization, the International Food Policy Research Institute, works in developing countries and we're having a major conference in China this fall. Best, Michele (m.pietrowski@cgiar.org)

I write most about climate change, biodiversity, science and technology policies and any interesting discoveries of Chinese scientists. Since I work for a general daily, I am almost the only science feature writer for the paper. So basically I am interested in most of the science issues provided they have news value.

Hi Wu,

Thanks for your reply. I will ask to Jia or Li. Thanks again for your suggestion.Anyway in which topic mainly are you writing? Involvement?

Hi Mr Kattel,
Yes, I would like to help you. But after looking through my contact list, I failed to find any prof specialized in atmospheric science in these two schools. Most of my stories related to climate change sought help from the Chinese Academy of Science, actually. But, I recommend you to ask help from Jia Hepeng or Li Hujun, both of whom you can easily locate in this network. They are both senior science reporters and may know more professors in this field than me. I will also try some other ways to help you in this regard. And I will let you know ASAP. Hope the information helps!
