I am a Kolkata-based Indian journalist who has spent more than two decades in the print media. I have written on practically everything under the sun, and covered politics, business, science, medical research , public health, films, entertainment, art, dance, litersature, developmental issues, and the environment in my long career . I have worked on several national dailies in my country, and freelanced for nearly every major Indian publication so far.I also hold a doctorate in African Studies and have quite a few academic articles to my credit dealing with the complex problems of third world development. I am currently associated with CIVIL SOCIETY, India's only professionally-published magazine dealing with developmental issues as their Regional Correspondent (East). I have also been writing a column-Gender Voices -for the South Asian Women's Forum's webzine-CONNECT. I am also a regular ffreelance contributor to Infochange India, a developmental news website, besides many other Indian publications. The environment is a subject close to my heart, and shall always remain so.

Climate change affects the poorest of the poor

Where climate change is concerned, little thought is given to what it holds for the poorest developing nations. It is the developed West which is expressing a lot of anguish on the melting ice caps and retreating glaciers. But the truth is, it is the poor developing nations of Asia, Africa and South Africa that are the most vulnerable and are already paying a heavy price.

Large parts of Bangladesh and Indian West Bengal face the prospect of being wiped off the map. The same goes with t…

We share alike passion and concern for the people and environment for which and in which we work.Rural communities in my country are largely backward, depraved and neglected.A few of the that have visited other areas like the cities express fierce anger when you talk with them.As a journalist, I try to bring to public attention this ills hoping that proper attention would come to give them some respite.
When traditional medicines are standardized, which is a far cry now,may be,it truly serve as an alternative option.
Thanks for your remarks.

Hi Rina
This is Sahar from the Dawn Group of Newspapers, Karachi. I have to write an article on "How to make climate change an interesting issue for common men". Please comment asap on this. I mean how can we make this dry issue, a crowd puller for the working class of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh?

Hi,
Would you please do me a favour ? In near future[may be April first weak,08] we may plan a national discussion in Varanasi on use of science fiction in communicating science in media.I would like you to please participate as communication media expert and tell me more names, preferably two or three equally talented sf writers /reviewers who could contribute something of worth insofar as Bengali sf is concerned .We are trying to accommodate representatives of many other languages where sf has made some impact. This is going to be in all probability a DST [GOI] sponsored event and so logistics /remuneration /TA DA etc wont be a problem .And visiting a fabulous modern classic city -Varanasi with all local hospitality would be an added attraction. your response is eagerly awaited.
best ,
arvind

Hello, According to me, its our moral duty to go to the field and aware the common peoples about the problems of ecological balance and its consequences rather than to aware the same problems with our colleagues( who already knows).
