Well, physics has stalled. New experiments have become very expensive. Yet other sciences could progress easily: the behavior of animals is not very well documented ( we need more observations of the behavior if insects, spiders, fish, mammals, birds and reptiles ) and it is not yet explained how it has developed in evolution. My personal opinion is: physics has run into many dead-end streets: controlled neclear fusion is still in the very far future and high-energy / particle physics is becoming too expensive. Scientists, like all humans, are "gregarious animals", i.e. they follow the crowd, everyone does what everyone else is doing. The key to success however lies in working in fields that are still uncharted territory.
