I am a British freelance journalist based in São Paulo state, Brazil. I was environment correspondent for BBC News from 1997-2005. Since embarking on my independent career I have been covering a range of mainly environment and development related issues for written, broadcast and online media. I have also been acting on a communications consultancy basis for various international organisations including the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA), the Caribbean Sea Ecosystem Assessment (CARSEA) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). My interests are wide but I have a particular bias towards the communication of climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services -- and naturally a detailed knowledge of the environmental and political scene in Brazil.

Tim, there is some synchronicity at work here - the Hirsch brothers are a force to be reckoned with ... your birdwatching site is amazing. I hope to bring my sons to visit your part of Brazil in the not too distant future. I will email you further.

Dear Tim, I am a huge fan of your brother's work on the Mekong region. My husband is a Brazilian diplomat and we have just moved from Bangkok to Brasilia. I'm doing my dissertation on biofuels and understand that this is an area of your interest. If you are in Brasilia, I would welcome the opportunity to meet.

Tim, sounds like a plan. We can meet up for beer in the new future also I checked out where you are based and it looks great. If its not too far a drive away from Sao Paulo I would be happy to meet up there in the New Year too.

Tim, it has been a while since we initially exchanged messages but if you are back in Sao Paulo I would be interested in meeting up for beer if you still fancy it.

Hi Tim!

If you are interested in writing about the semi-arid region of Brazil I can help you out. I have quite a bit of information about the caatinga, which only exists in Brazil but is Brazil's least valued and protected biome. I also have diverse contacts in the region, which I can pass on to you if you require specific details.

Cheers,
Dean

Yes it appears we do have a few things in common. A couple of beers sounds good so give me a shout when you get back.
