Hello Isha,

I am Mohit Kumar Jolly, an undergraduate student at IIT Kanpur. I read about your interest in science communication. I too am very interested in science journalism and communication and I initiated the campus science and technology magazine of IIT Kanpur named NERD - a quarterly magazine with focus on content created by students. Online versions can be found at I also gave a talk on 'Catalyzing science communication through students' at the International Conference on Hands-on Science in October'09 at Ahmedabad.

I have taken around 50 interviews of eminent scientists/engineers around the world for NERD to inspire the student audience and motivate them for innovative thinking.

I thought it would be good to be in touch with you and exchange developments in field of science communication.

Looking forward for your reply.

You asked what I do. I run the science outreach activities for my uni: putting uni students into science classes as assistants, organising on-campus activities, taking equipment out to schools, cross-university (and others) science fairs, making the website, organising talks by lecturers, giving some talks myself, writing articles, all that kind of stuff.

I personally don't have any education qualifications and I work closely with friendly teachers to fill in the gaps. I did get a Masters in the social aspects of science, which has been invaluable. Little is more useful than experience though. It's only by making a few eyes glaze over that you learn to phrase things the right way.
