Reporting Climate Change: Creating a Climate of Change in Southeast Asia
The application for the Climate Change Media Workshop is fast approaching with deadline set on June 30, 2008. The workshop will be held on August 12-13, 2008 in Manila, Philippines.
All interested journalists from Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, as well as from China and Bangladesh are encouraged to send their application before the deadline.
The Philippine Science Journalists Association, Inc. (PsciJourn), with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Regional Office for Southeast and East Asia, and the Economy and Environment Program of Southeast Asia (EEPSEA), is hosting the two-day workshop for Southeast Asian Journalists.
We will bring together 24 journalists from the print, electronic, radio and television mainstream press to participate in a workshop to better understand the nature of climate change in Southeast Asia. Climate change experts will be invited to speak on the science aspects of climate change and the participating journalists will also discuss what kind of research information is useful to them and how it is communicated to them.
The organizers will provide travel, accommodation and a daily subsistence expense allowance to journalists selected. Selected journalists, however, must arrange their own country visa (if applicable) and must purchase personal travel insurance in their home country before traveling to the Philippines.
Successful applicants will be notified by 7 JULY 2008.
We would like you to send us soft copies of two clippings or URLs of stories published on related environment and climate change issues from the print media or websites, or a letter of support from your supervisor for radio and television journalists. If the stories are not in English, kindly send us synopses of each. Please enclose your short career overview and photo with your application form, plus a 250-words statement on how you as a journalist tackle climate change or environment issues in your respective countries, what you want to learn, what are your knowledge gaps are, and you commitment to reporting on climate change.
